Fractional AI Operations Lead

An owner for AI in operations, a few days a month, without a full-time hire.

No pitch. If I can’t find a workflow worth automating, I’ll tell you on the call.

Who this is for

Operations organizations with momentum that need someone to keep it honest and moving: a roadmap tied to operating metrics, vendors managed, adoption tracked, and a clear readout for leadership every month. Typical clients are 100 to 2,000 people with a COO or VP of Operations who owns the mandate but not the hours.

What I own

I run the AI roadmap for your operation the way a strong operations leader would: what gets automated next, which vendors stay and which exit, how adoption is measured, and what gets reported up. I work directly with your team leads and sit in the vendor meetings so you do not have to.

  • A living roadmap tied to operating metrics, reviewed monthly
  • Vendor and tool management, including renewals, exits, and contract terms
  • Monthly measurement and a one-page readout for leadership
  • Team enablement: playbooks, training, and office hours
  • First call when something breaks or a new opportunity appears

How it compares to hiring

A full-time head of AI operations is a senior hire with a long search and a high salary, and many companies do not yet have enough work to fill the role. Fractional gives you the judgment and the ownership at a fraction of the cost, and it converts cleanly to a full-time hire when the volume justifies it. I will help you write the job description when that day comes.

Questions

What people ask first.

How many days a month?

Most engagements are two to four days a month, set at the start and reviewed quarterly. Urgent issues get handled between scheduled days.

What is the minimum commitment?

Three months, so the roadmap has time to produce measurable results. After that it is month to month.

Do you work alongside an existing ops or IT team?

Yes, and that is the best setup. I do not replace your team. I give them a roadmap, cover the vendor and measurement work, and make sure what ships gets adopted.

Which AI tools and vendors do you work with?

I am vendor neutral. I have bought and implemented platforms such as Zendesk, Twilio Flex, and 8x8 at Lyft scale, and I build with Claude, OpenAI, and current agent tooling every week. The recommendation follows the workflow, not the other way around.

Do we need engineers for this to work?

Usually not for the first wins. Most operations automation comes from well-defined workflows and off-the-shelf tooling configured carefully. When a build is needed, I write the first version or a spec your engineers can act on.

We are in a regulated industry. Is that a problem?

It is the normal case for me. I run operations under FCRA today, and at Lyft I worked through regulatory programs that required careful tradeoffs. Compliance is designed into the workflow with audit trails and human review, not bolted on afterward.

Let’s find the first workflow.

Thirty minutes. Bring the process that eats the most time. You leave with a view on whether AI can help and what it would take.
